240z Rear-View Mirror

The stock mirror was too wide, so I replaced it with an MG mirror

I added a rollbar to my car, and as I’d expected, it blocked most of the stock mirror.

I bought a mirror with a suction cup that could be affixed near the bottom of the windshield to see if having something that low would work. It did, but the seats blocked some of it on each end, plus it blocked the view of my right-front fender while turning.

Something had to change.

240z Rear-View Mirror A mirror for an MG seemed good. It’s about half the width, which is just what I wanted.

I bought one for $45 from a local place that specializes in British cars. It’s designed to be mounted on the top of the MG windshield frame, which wouldn’t going to work for me. I thought about mounting it to the dash but don’t want to drill any holes.

240z Rear-View Mirror I made a temporary mount from a suction cup and little piece of plywood. Total cost was zero.

I drove around the block a few times and decided it was going to work.

240z Rear-View Mirror I bought a windshield-mounted mirror and glue from Amazon. Cost was $25.

I cut off the base and drilled a hole in it, then glued the stem for the MG unit into the hole and gave it a nice coat of black paint.

240z Rear-View Mirror I glued the mounting tab to the glass, then slid the “new” mirror into place. It’s perfect. I can see if anything is behind me and it blocks far less of the windshield than the stock mirror.

I went to the place I’d bought the MG mirror from and they were impressed enough to take a few photos for some of their customers to look at because they might want a similar mod themselves.

Total cost was about $70, which is more than I wanted to pay but the end result is worth it.
